About the Opportunity
A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This role will support day-to-day accounting operations with a strong emphasis on accounts receivable, grant-related accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a nonprofit environment, possess strong Sage Intacct skills, and be comfortable managing multiple priorities in a collaborative setting.
I. Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounts receivable processes, including invoice generation, cash application, collections follow-up, and account reconciliation.
- Prepare and post journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Support grant and program accounting by tracking revenues, expenditures, and funding allocations.
- Reconcile bank accounts, accounts receivable, and other general ledger accounts.
- Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation for leadership and external auditors.
- Collaborate with program managers and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.
- Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Assist with annual audit preparation and respond to auditor requests as needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
II. Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience.
- Hands-on experience with Accounts Receivable and account reconciliations.
- Experience using Sage Intacct.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with grant accounting or restricted funding.
- Exposure to audit support and financial reporting processes.
