Job Overview:


The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting and administering key human resources functions including payroll processing, benefits administration, and retirement plan compliance. This role ensures accurate payroll operations, effective employee benefit programs, and compliance with regulatory requirements, including participation in annual 401(k) audits. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and knowledgeable in HR operations and compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll for employees ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Maintain payroll records, deductions, and tax documentation.
  • Coordinate with payroll providers and finance to reconcile payroll data.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee payroll inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefits programs including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans.
  • Manage employee enrollment, changes, and terminations in benefit systems.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits questions.
  • Coordinate open enrollment including communication and employee education.
  • Work with benefits brokers and vendors to ensure accurate plan administration.

401(k) Plan Administration & Audit Support

  • Assist in the administration of the company’s 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Monitor employee eligibility, enrollment, and contribution changes.
  • Ensure timely remittance of employee contributions.
  • Support annual 401(k) audits by preparing documentation and working with auditors and plan administrators.
  • Assist with nondiscrimination testing and compliance reporting.

HR Operations

  • Maintain employee records and ensure HRIS data accuracy.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Assist with HR compliance, policies, and employee communications.
  • Generate HR reports and analytics as needed.
  • Provide support for HR projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of HR experience with payroll and benefits administration.
  • Experience supporting 401(k) plan administration and audits preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (ADP, Paycom, Workday, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Certifications

  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
