Job Description:
Addison Group is seeking a Senior Accountant / Payroll Specialist to join a growing organization in the Northern Virginia area. This position will support both accounting operations and full-cycle payroll processing while partnering closely with leadership and cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger experience, advanced payroll knowledge, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support month-end close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to ensure financial accuracy and compliance
- Process full-cycle semi-monthly payroll for a multi-state employee population
- Review employee timesheets and process payroll adjustments as needed
- Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Coordinate payroll-related employee changes including new hires, terminations, benefits deductions, and garnishments
- Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
- Prepare account reconciliations and support monthly financial analysis
- Assist with audits and support documentation requests from external auditors
- Support internal controls, accounting procedures, and process improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure accurate employee and payroll records
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of accounting and full-cycle payroll experience
- 5+ years of Deltek Costpoint experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll regulations, and financial reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP/payroll systems
- Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Paycom, iSolved, or similar platforms preferred
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally
- Experience in a fast-paced environment preferred
- Government contracting experience strongly preferred
