Job Description:
We're looking for a Benefits Administrator to join a busy HR team on a temporary basis. Your main focus will be managing employee leaves of absence, backed by day-to-day benefits support and monthly premium billing. This is a great fit for an independent, detail-minded professional who stays calm under pressure and enjoys being the helpful, front-facing point of contact for employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full lifecycle of leave requests, including eligibility checks, notices, designations, and return-to-work follow-up
- Work closely with Payroll to close out leaves that affect pay processing
- Apply multi-state paid leave requirements and escalate complex situations when appropriate
- Handle benefit enrollments, qualifying life events, and eligibility follow-up
- Resolve questions from insurance carriers and vendors
- Prepare and reconcile monthly carrier premium invoices across health, dental, vision, disability, and leave plans
- Reconcile monthly premium remittance reports, partner with Finance on coding, and process eligibility terminations for delinquent payments
- Support employees during open enrollment by answering questions, assisting with elections, and following up on incomplete enrollments
- Monitor the benefits and leave ticket queue daily, resolving requests within one business day or routing them to the right teammate
- Verify member data, process SSN updates, review monthly HSA eligibility reports, and keep HRIS records accurate
- Maintain organized, audit-ready files for leave, billing, and enrollment activity
- Write and update process documents and desk notes so the team can pick up the work when the assignment ends
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience administering leave programs, including FMLA, PWFA, and state paid leave
- Working knowledge of multi-state paid leave requirements
- Hands-on experience with health and welfare administration, including enrollments and life events
- Experience reconciling monthly carrier premium invoices
- Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and keep documentation audit-ready
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to perform well under pressure
- Preferred: familiarity with ERISA, ACA, and COBRA
- Preferred: experience with Workday or a similar HRIS
- Preferred: background in a research, nonprofit, or healthcare setting
