Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our growing finance and HR team in SE Houston. This role is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll while ensuring compliance with company policies, payroll regulations, and tax requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, experience with payroll systems, and the ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality. This role offers the opportunity to grow within the payroll and accounting function.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
- Process biweekly or weekly payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy in wages, deductions, and benefits
- Review and audit payroll data including timecards, pay rates, bonuses, commissions, and adjustments
- Ensure payroll is processed in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Employee Payroll Support
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings
- Assist employees with payroll-related documentation and corrections
Payroll Reconciliation & Reporting
- Reconcile payroll reports and ensure payroll data aligns with general ledger accounts
- Maintain accurate payroll records and assist with reporting for management
Compliance & Tax Support
- Support payroll tax reporting, filings, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Ensure proper documentation and adherence to internal controls and audit requirements
Timekeeping & System Maintenance
- Maintain employee payroll records including new hires, terminations, and compensation changes
- Partner with HR to ensure payroll system data is accurate and up to date
Month-End & Process Improvement
- Assist with month-end and year-end payroll reconciliations
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and system efficiencies
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of payroll processing experience required
- Experience processing payroll in a high-volume environment preferred
- Experience with payroll or HRIS systems required
- Strong Excel skills preferred
- Knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and tax reporting
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
